Our September Think & Drink was a particularly lively one with a bunch of new faces added to the mix. What fun! After some deliberation, our group decided to run with a question posed by Dayna Baumeister about discourse — namely, “How do we transition from a polarized society to one that more readily embraces discourse?” In the process, we explored:
- Basic assumptions about our current state of being (relative to polarization)
- What sorts of data we should consider relative to our assessment of whether or not something is more or less polarized — e.g., music, policy, other
- Data sets vs. Data points (Gracias, Jemma! FYI, still trying to recall verbatim your lovely analogy…something akin to: data points are x, data sets are the ocean!)
- What we can do better to progress and flourish (a spin-off of Brian Coplin’s initial query)
- Technology and social media
- Modes and styles of dialogue
- And more…
