We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization aimed at helping people find their way with philosophy. A cornerstone of our practice is a solid belief in the value and relevance of philosophy & its ability to help people live healthier, happier & more deeply satisfying lives, to encourage critical & creative thought, to cultivate leadership & action, and to foster, strengthen & enrich communities. We also think it is a truly fun, exhilarating, and rewarding activity in itself & is not meant to be closed away in some book but, rather, to be lived.
Our board members, officers, advisors & staff and volunteers have rich and diverse backgrounds in philosophy & psychology and are active in research and the community. While unique in our skill sets, each of us shares the belief that what we do in life matters and that giving back to society is an important part of what it means to be “fully human.” We even have an organization mascot (Luciano, a.k.a. ‘The Merlin Meower’) who leads the charge! Ultimately, our team does what we do because we love it!
The idea for Merlin CCC (initially Merlin MCC) was first conceived in 2012. Preliminary steps for its not-for-profit operation began the following Spring. A business plan was created & board members and staff/volunteers were selected. In the Summer of 2014, we filed our Articles of Incorporation and became an official non-profit. We then began putting the final pieces in place for our launch date. Our first official board meeting was held in the Fall of 2014, we filed for tax exempt-status in February of 2015 & received our IRS Determination Letter in April 2015. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, donations, volunteer-time & contributions are tax-deductible under section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code.
