About Jo Young

Jo Young trained horses, mules, cattle and dogs from age 6 to age 76, enjoying the sweet exhilaration that comes from communicating with another species. Having three children and two marriages pushed her toward acquiring better communication skills with humans as well. Starting in her late 20s, she discovered Esalen Institute, where she immersed herself in personal growth.

34 years of Jo’s life were spent married to X Special Forces Vietnam Vet, David Young, which she describes as a “huge adventure” all the way through the time of his death. Later, Jo met an artist (and now partner) named Rick, whom she moved to Helena nine years ago to be with.

Jo’s work life has been a kick. She was fortunate enough to inherit some motels, developed three restaurants, learned to build hot rod airplanes, owned a health club, raised thoroughbreds for the racetrack, and built (and designed) two commercial strip malls, five warehouses and several homes.

“I hike the hills, volunteer, and try to attend everything Merlin has to offer. Everyone involved helps challenges my understanding of the world and enriches my spirit. When it comes to philosophy, I’m a bit like Miss Marple. I relate situations to my personal experience and enjoy listening to the others present their perspectives, which of course educates and expands my world view.”
